Capuchin Snehashram

On 30th November 2016 Br. Raphie Paliakkara, our Provincial received a formal invitation letter from Mar Thomas Thuruthimattam CST the bishop of Gorakhpur requesting our collaboration in starting a Capuchin Mission in his Eparchy. The Provincial Council meeting of 12th April 2020 in its first decision appointed Br. Antony Thaliyath to pioneer the Mission in Gorakhpur. On 27th April, Br. Antony Thaliyath met Mar Thomas Thuruthimattam, the Bishop of Gorakhpur and had some preliminary talks with him. The latter expressed his desire that we start a prayer Centre in a remote and non-Christian village, called Sahwa. On 16th May, Br. Pauly Madassery, our Minister Provincial met the Bishop of Gorakhpur and visited some mission stations. After some vital discussions it was decided that the Capuchin Mission can be started at the eparchy of Gorakhpur.

Our first Capuchin House, called ‘Capuchin Snehashram’, at Hata, Dhada was blessed by Bishop Thomas Thuruthimattam on 26th of July 2018. On 25th June 2019, the foundation stone for our Ashram at Sahwa was blessed and laid by Mar Thomas Thuruthimattam. The foundation stone for the school and the Church were blessed by Bishop Mar Thomas, on 08th December, 2019 in the presence of Br. Pauly Madassery, the Provincial. On 19th January 2020, Br. Antony Thaliyath laid the foundation stone of the school, which was blessed by the bishop on 08th December 2019.

Nirmal Dham Ashram which was constructed by the eparchy under the supervision of Br. Antony Thaliyath was blessed by the bishop on 25th June 2020 and was handed over to us for our use. On 08th of August 2020, the formal Capuchin Fraternity was started at Snehashram, with Br. Antony Thaliyath as the Guardian, Br. Dinu Velukaran as the Vicar and Br. Ruble Parasseril as the Treasurer.
