PAX Retreat Center
Franciscan Spirituality Centre for the Religious and Laity.
PAX Centre is the conception of our first Provincial of St. Thomas Capuchin Provincialate, Aluva. When the existing Syro-Malabar St. Joseph Capuchin Province of Kerala was divided into three jurisdictions (Two provinces and one Vice-Province) in 1999, St. Thomas the Apostle Province came into existence, having its Provincialate in Aluva, Ernakulam Dist. Since the Provincialate did not have sufficient convenience for the friars to stay during the Chapters, Br. Francis Christi, the Provincial of the time made an appeal to the Office of the Economic Solidarity, Capuchin General Curia, Rome for financial help to put up a structure. With the financial help the province received, a two storied building was put up adjacent to the Provincialate building (named PAX CENTRE). Later in 2009, a second floor and a weather roofing were put up on the same building in order to accommodate the increasing number of friars for Chapters, Annual Retreats, Mission Animation Sessions, Renewal Program, similar On-Going programs etc.
Meanwhile five-days’ Retreat for Rev. Sisters was begun once in every month. Since it had a good response, this program is continued even now. Occasionally this Centre is also given to others to conduct retreats and seminars. When Covid-19 struck us in 2020-2021 we had to close down everything. From 2022 onwards we are also conducting one-month Basic Counselling Course for the religious and lay people, under the initiative of Bro. Joshy Vasupurathukaran.
